Part 2: Depalma Art & Kustom Car Show

Bringing you part two of the Depalma Art & Kustom Car Show. This part of the feature, we're gonna cover less of the event and go more into depth with a few rides that really caught our interests. From what it looks like, these lovely car's are apart of the "Autoholics Car Club" and were restyled by Starlite Rod & Kustom.

First up, We're gonna start off with this beautiful 1960's Oldmobile Dynamic 88. This is definitely a car that you MUST see in person. Pictures do no justice whatsoever. It's quite amazing actually, no matter where you lay your eyes on, the details on this car will draw you in more & more. The first thing that really caught my attention was the color scheme. The different shades of cool colors definitely give the car a easy on the eye type of look. From there, as you get closer, you may notice the intricate details on it, from the pinstriping to the panel graphics designed by DA Designs and how the colors blend in with each other. One of my favorite things about the car is the roof. The roof... Your probably wondering what is so cool about a roof. Well on this particular car, it's where you'll find more of the intricate design as well a unique twist on flakes. Yes, the roof of the this car is fucking beautiful because it catches your undivided attention when the flakes shimmer in the sun. Therefore this Dynamic 88 is definitely something that you must see in person and this is what you call a piece of art, simple as that. This is the true definition of a built car.

Here's a Starlite Garage built Chevy truck nicknamed "El Durti Martini". This Lucha themed truck is probably one of the coolest kustom trucks i've ever seen. The truck itself is actually used as a shop truck at Starlite Rod & Kustom. The thing that really grabbed my attention was the way it was built. The first noticeable thing was the most obvious, the carson top. I think the carson top itself gives the truck character, lots of it. Aside from that, the green paint scheme is what gives the truck it's Lucha feel and the graphics also tie in with the Lucha theme as well. I'm a big fan of details, one of the things that caught my attention was the diamond stitched styled side step that was wrapped in fabric. Definitely creative & classy.

Another beautiful and eye catching vehicle is this kustom 1960's Ford Starliner. As you can see, the bright orange is definitely noticeable to the eye. About everything is orange, even the windows! This Starliner is another example of a quality type of build that is done by Starlite Rod & Kustom. This car is definitely one of those car's that you must see in person. You can only admire the true quality of this car when your eyes see it in person, every detail will become noticeable to you. From the flakes to the graphics, this car is easily one of my favorite pieces of art on wheels.

Last but not least, is another beautiful creation. Here lays a very low 1955 Chevy Nomad aka The Pink Panther II. There's just something about the Nomad that i admire so much, probably the fact that it's a wagon but only has two doors. This beautiful Nomad right here is just another wonderful creation that you must see in person. The graphics layed out by DA designs is now something that you are use to, it's the caliber of work that is put into these beautiful show cars to portray how creative you can get with a car in a artful manner. I mean... a car is a blank canvas by the way and definitely the fellas at Autoholics know how to build cars as well as art pieces. Genesis 2.0

In collaboration with Stay Stetti, our good friend Nick Debono sent us a photo set that he shot for Stay Stetti & we ended up getting the green light to post it on FYC as well. So hopefully there's no confusion of us snatching photos and what not. Hand's down, this is by far the cleanest Genesis that has ever layed surface, in our opinion. You may be wondering why the title states "Genesis 2.0", Let's just say a while ago, this Genesis was sitting on a different set of wheels & it looked nothing to what you are seeing now. The owner, Jon Jon decided to do a 360 turn around on the car. If you clicked on the link above and saw the huge transformation you can tell that it looks completely like a whole new car. The most obvious, from the OEM Tsukaba Red paint job, Jon Jon had the car repainted a custom dark Metallic Teal/Black paint & of course, the fellas from TNT Autobody in Sacramento were the one's behind top-notch the spray.

What I'm really digging on this car are the wheels. First of all, the white face definitely compliments the custom Metallic Teal/Black paint. It gives the car character & definitely screams out attention, but in a very good way of course. Along with how the LFS6i Deep Incurvo wheels are designed, the split spokes and concave design really give the car the look that it needs. And of course, the bright red Brembo brakes is like the cherry on top!

Some may notice, most won't but what separates the front end from this Genesis aside from the others is the fairly aggressive yet simplistic design of the Cuper Designs Front Bumper. The bumper gives the Genesis it's completed look, at least in our opinion, less of a OEM look and more aggressive with it's lines. Last but not least, for those that care... This Genesis is sitting on a set of Stance GR+ coilovers.

Part 1: DePalma Art & Kustom Car Show

This past Sunday, the fellas from DePalma Clothing threw an awesome event @ the LAB in Costa Mesta, CA. Showing casing various types of talented artist as well as a handful of beautiful kustom cars. It was a perfect day to be surrounded by such great vibes, as the SoCal weather was just at it's best!

Usually at F.Y.C, you generally see a lot JDM/EURO content, but we at F.Y.C admire all aspects of the car culture. Every now and then we get to venture outside of the usual car scene and step onto new grounds. Sometimes we wish we more known on this side of the playing field. We definitely have a soft spot for classic cars, especially anything that is chopped, flaked out, low & kustom.

Lowriders, oh man... Where do we start? By far, we're big on Lowriders. If you noticed our FYC plaque design, it was actually inspired from the Lowrider car club plaque's. There's definitely something about Lowriders that you just have to admire and appreciate! For us, it's a bit hard to explain why we love them so much, but when you look at one, you just appreciate every single bit of hard work that was put into it. As far as styling cue's, there definitely noticeable from the other's yet it's just eye catching to us. It's similar to how we admire the slammed look, stretched tires, and the assortment's of fitment when it comes to our car culture. Something that you can't really put your finger on, but you definitely know you dig the hell out of it.

Sometime's even the simple things can catch your attention. For example, this beautiful two tone Mercury Monterey in the picture below. It's simplistic and timeless design definitely hit's the spot and to top it off, it's sitting very pretty and low to the ground. Exactly how we like it! You know it's definitely a beauty, when you just stare at it in awe and try to figure out in your mind at what can else can you do it... simply nothing. It's just one of those car's that you know that you have to have in your stable. Aside from that, Speaking of timeless designs, how about the Lincoln Zephyr in the photo above. This car is definitely something, from it's unique body to the interesting cock pit. This car is definitely a time machine, and hell no they don't build em like this anymore!

WAGON FEVER

Let's welcome Owen Gollaba to the FYC family. This is his first shoot with us and we're definitely excited to have Owen on the team. Coming out of a city where ya'll really don't hear much from, Santa Maria. We definitely can't wait to see what he has in store for us.

Wagons... We at FYC have been a big fan of wagons. To tell you the truth, we don't really know why were so in love with wagon's but there's just something about them. Wagon's are typically longer than your usual basic car, along with its roof extended rearward over a shared passenger/cargo volume with access at the back via a third or fifth door, instead of a trunk lid. A wagon isn't exactly a "pretty car" to most folks. But what makes a ordinary wagon stand out is how it is executed. What's even more eye catching is a wagon that is laying on the ground with a complimentary set of wheels. And that is exactly what we have here.

Michael's 05 Audi S4 Avant is something you wanna take a close look at. The car itself, isn't too extreme but it's just about perfect. The Air Lift Slam Series XL bags and struts accompanied by Accuair e-Level air management system with custom floating install has this wagon sitting very pretty and quite low to the ground. The textured matte gunmetal ForgeStar CF5's give the car a sporty look and the concave wheel design retains it's classy and simplistic look. The Euro Spec retrofitted A4 Oettinger front bumper completes the overall look with a aggressive yet OEM look to it. Accompanying the Oettinger bumper, the Kerscher carbon fiber front lip and Kerscher side skirts is like the cherry on top. Giving the car the full look that is needed. Ladies & Gentlemen, what you are looking at is a S4 Avant that is perfectly executed.

A Touch of Class

The new year has started off with a rough start, due to time constraints the blog hasn't been updated lately. Now that we are back up, our goal for the year is to supply our fans with some awesome content. On a side note, We would definitely like to thank our fan's for supporting us.

Second of all, we would also like to thank Nick Debono for supplying us with some new content of this gorgeous Lexus IS from Northern California. For those that may not know Nick, he is currently one of our new staff member's that will be shooting for FYC. We definitely hope to see some more stuff from Nick in the near future!

So here's a Lexus that is very subtle & elegant. The owner, Mariano has definitely built himself one sweet ride. The Lexus isn't too gaudy or flashy but it is pieced together with precision. When building a car, you gotta figure out what your goal is & how you want to execute it. In the end, the result may be a horrific looking car or better yet, a piece of art. When looking at Mariano's IS, we're looking at a very fine piece of art. Every single bit of modification on this car took some thought & behind that you will definitely see the quality within it.

Mariano himself is the type of guy that takes pride in his work. What you're looking at isn't your average car with some half ass modding to it. The vehicle itself is wrapped in a authentic vertex body kit, accomodating the body is a wald trunk spoiler molded into the trunk & quarter panels.The IS is sitting on a set of coilovers, nicely tucking in the rear on it's static set-up. As far as his wheel set up, the IS is sitting on a set of 3-Piece Strasse Forged wheels, accomodating the wheels are Rotora 6 piston calipers (front) & Rotora 4 piston calipers (rear). The extensive list goes on, and down that list about everything that is pieced together on this car screams out quality. To a true car enthusiasts, this is how a real car is built.

As the year comes to an end, we would like to end our last post with something that you can all relate to. On a side note, We would also like to thank our fans for supporting us. Without you guy's we would be nothing. Our goal for 2012 will be aimed a little higher than how it was in 2011 and it will always be our pleasure to bring you guy's the newest and freshest content. So stay tuned for 2012, it's gonna be a very good year...

On the BP VIP 's 1st year anniversary , they decided to throw a BBQ in celebration of a growing car club and family. The day started off a little bit rough with heavy rain and thunderstorms the morning of the BBQ. With everything already planned, the guy's decided to proceed with the BBQ, rain or shine. At the time, i wasn't a official BP member yet but i ended up skipping JCCS (Japanese Classic Car Show) to spend a day with all the amigos. When i headed out to the meet, the sun came out and the clouds were moving eastward. Throughout the day, we were blessed with beautiful Southern California weather.

The outcome of the BBQ wasn't too big, nor was it too small but it was just about perfect. Afterall, quality over quantity is the motto. The location was perfect, it was a little hidden park right behind the harbor. Throughout the day, plenty of VIP cars rolled in as well as others. The sun was warm and the ocean breeze kept us all cool.

Apart from building cars, being that we are made up of individuals. What i think is important, is being able to build a relationship with fellow your enthusiasts. After all, we all do share a certain hobby and we're all apart of the same lifestyle. From my point of view, when i first met the guy's from BP, i didn't know any of them. As time flew by, and the more car show's and meet's i attended with them. I eventually got to know them better. I guess you can say it's a given, we all share the same common interests. It's to the point that the club becomes a family, that's how tight every body is and as far as drama, that's something we grown ups don't bother with.

Every now and then, it's a given to meet up to take some time off and relax with those that all share the same passion as us. Food is what brings people together. And a little competitive drunk game of Bocche definitely set's the right mood. When everyone is getting along, that's when you know your having a good time. Car clubs from all sorts of regions are hanging out together, cracking jokes and talking about each other's cars. There's nothing better than unity. It's exactly what brings this scene in together and it's something that is lacking every now and then. It's times like these you learn to live again.

Beauty and performance are sometimes not always found in the same package, unless you truly know your cars when you see an M badge you know all the rules have been thrown out the window. The M series heritage goes all the way back to the early 80s, back when technology wasn’t close to the level we currently have available. Even the E30 M3 was at its game in the 80s, throughout the years as if they were wine, the models only got better. The E46 has to be one of the most visually striking body styles to anyone’s eyes, the aggressive front end, to the rear fenders just wide enough to command your respect. At the time of the E46 being produced the S54 was BMW’s highest NA output engine that year, coming in at 340 HP and 270 Lb-ft of torque. Still to the current day, those numbers aren’t anything to shrug off.

It was only the “Eric thing” to do running this car straight piped, more on that decision later. Eric has his work cut out for him, with an already decent power plant, He moved to get the arches filled using a set of Tein SS dampers, and camber plates that came with purchasing the car you could say that it was a sign. A couple spanner wrench twists and pumps of the floor jack, that task was taken care off. Having Beyren wheels fitted under the fenders a clean, simple and classy look; I’m always a fan of well done race meshes on a car capable of motorsport conditions.

Now that the car was well settled over its new wheel and suspension adjustments, the front end was next on the list to tackle, I hounded Eric countless times for CSL bumper I knew it was on his list but it was only right that I kept buggin him about it. Soon after that, the CSL bumper was painted and fitted accordingly. Something about the look of it just turns the car into a different beast, it’s such a clean and perfectly composed bumper, also the CF splitters don’t hurt at all. Metaphorically speaking the only way I can describe it to someone that has never seen it, is that it’s something like the predator. The stock bumper would have to be a oem bumper and the mask he wears would have to be a CSL bumper, a clean and intimidating stature.

Being able to see what’s in front of you is always a good thing to keep in mind, Umnitza has Eric covered with the lighting category, with their flawless predator V2 angel eyes, in a world of civics and other random cars with angel eyes…. They only belong on BMW’s, Period. The frontend wasn’t the only thing to get attention if you work your way around back, you’d find a CF CSL trunk. You could say that would be salt in the cut he already made with the front end. I never really gave any thought to the trunk when he first brought up the idea but I’m so glad he did pull the trigger on getting one, The extended lines the trunk brings isn’t a totally eye grabber but if you pay attention you’ll see the slight difference and more then worth it.

An where most of Eric’s time is spent, in the hot seat. Out of the factory the seats are incredible; they even have lower leg bolsters for long drives for leg fatigue. Eric added a 4 point roll cage, and hand wrapped his interior trim in real CF, not the 3m knock off. There isn’t a complaint from me about the interior, Just enough to show attention to it but not enough to be annoyed if you ride in it. And lastly, to tame the beast on its daily compute or it’s weekend touge runs, Eric chose a NRG Tilt and Quick Release setup matched with a concave black suede wheel.

Some might question the steering wheel setup, maybe the cage? Maybe the wheels? Or once again that the car is straight piped. In a world where everyone is controlled by a screen name, or a blogs suggestion, Eric’s car is what a true enthusiasts’ car should be, his own. Eric’s one of those guys you meet in the car scene that makes you glad you’re into it. Saying he is like a brother to me would be an understatement, so if you know him a fraction of how I know him he has his own style, Loud pipes, crazy static drops, Air’d out laying frame, Wide fitment, and track ready cars are what catches his attention.

It won’t be changed or compromised and that’s exactly what keyboard warriors and replica part junkies these days need to find more of instead of worrying about someone miles away would think of their honest vision in the car scene. And of course my vision doesn’t stray too far away from the same, one of the key aspects to Eric being a true enthusiast is that he’s open to all style's, we try to attend any car show we can. Never favoring just one style of tuning a car, Can’t wait to see this car grow more as time progresses. So if you’re ever in the Napa valley enjoying the various wines, enjoying the scenery. If you hear a angry thunder headed your way… you might just catch a glimpse of Eric’s Bavarian creation.

OG Dean, Keepin it Clean.

If I told you that I was shooting a maxima, you wouldn't seem to find yourself wondering what mods are done or even what year it is. But if I told you this car belonged to Dean Shimabukuro, a quick search might change your mind. Maximas aren't usually a go to car in the VIP world, but in a sea of cars that have a usual pattern Dean's Maxima is the fresh breath of air needed.

You would say the body alone fresh from the Nissan plant is enough to catch any car enthusiasts eye, a curve here and a angle here. Everything is in the right spot, with that alone Dean was ready to attack the rest of the car. Ksport foot work was his weapon of choice to get those big round metal things as closely fitted to the fenders he could.

VIP Modular made sure they took care of the rest with a classic design, If your observant enough you'd see that Dean is running both sets of his wheels. His driver's side would be their VR08's and his passenger side would be they VR11's. The only conflict I have with the wheels is choosing which are my favorite..Rocking 20's all around was the perfect size in my opinion they just fit so right.

The car isn't overly done but isn't something that's close too stock, which again I have a sweet spot for something simple and well executed. Always anxious to see what changed and future plans are in store, Dean's always staying humble and letting his vision do the talking, something that seems to die more and more as the car scene progresses.

BP VIP C.C.

BP VIP is what i call, Southern California's premiere VIP/VIP-STYLE car club. What eventually started out as a group of friends, eventually turned into something very serious. Not only is BP a car club but as well as a giant family, along with members and affiliates.

Just a couple a week's ago, BP was in full effect at AutoFashion's 5th VIP Festival. Since 3/4's of the members were attending, I decided to set-up a shoot with one of San Diego's well known photographer's, David from Bojangles Photography. As far as that day went, it was shitty to be honest due to the stormy weather. In the end of course, we decided to stick with the plan and went forward with the shoot.

So... What does BP VIP mean? BP translates into Bippu Pride. Bippu is basically the pronunciation for VIP. Now if your a bit on the intelligent side, your probably wondering why does it all translate out to 'VIP Pride VIP' well let's just say, it's a topic that we won't touch base on. A side from that, To make it easier for everybody, BP = "Good Times x Good People x Sweet Rides".

OLD SCHOOL HANG OUT.

One thing that you gotta love about Southern California is how diverse it is. Specifically, the automotive car scene. It's definitely warming when you can view all the different types of cars and styling cues on a daily basis. Mainly on our blog you'll be seeing a lot of slammed European & Japanese automotives with certain styling cues. But one thing that we definitely love to share as well is our love for classic cars. You just can't go wrong when it comes to something that is a piece of art as well as history all together.

Just recently, a good buddy of ours David (BOJANGLES Photography & DudeBlvd) was recently invited to the "Illegales C.C." BBQ in San Diego. The homie himself whom is a fan of the classic cars accepted this invitation and found himself in a sea of classic cars on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Even though the park was fairly small, there were plenty of cars that had shown up through out the day.

As far as diversity goes, it's definitely a nice sight to see a whole fleet of old school whips ranging in variety of models and style. Also being in California, nothing beats being spending a nice day in the park with some bomb grub, great people and beautiful cars.

While David was chilling out at the BBQ, he also happened to meet Yudai whom is from the SoCal Chapter of the Local Heros. If you don't know who the Local Hero's are, you should definitely check them out at http://www.local-hero.jp/. They are actually based out in Japan and are involved with the custom culture in Japan which includes classic cars & motorcycles.

A SIMPLE APPROACH...

Hailing from Ocala, Florida Josh Taylor’s B5 A4, A simple and clean well put together daily without a doubt. An already clean body styled Audi with the right touches made this daily a eye catcher.

The car isn’t a bright color nor does it have a set of oddly colored wheels. Instead, the car was fitted on Rotiforms NUE’s in the respective sizes 18x9.5 ET 22, wrapped in some buttery Ziex 512s.

Not only having just a awesome set of wheels fitted right on the money would be just enough for a daily, Josh also deleted the muffler. Seeing as the A4 is a 1.8 it gives it that perfect tone too pull your ear in when he opens it up.

But still keeping it muffled tone when it’s needed. Another example of when simplicity over takes overly done. You can also catch Josh’s excellent videos here.

Adam’s Work’d FD.

Simplicity has to be one of the most overrated aspects of a car trend in the present day. Everyone wants there “Key” to fame, something that made them “original”. Sometimes keeping to the basics shows more skill then hacking together some new trend, you’ll find with the OG’s to the game this isn’t a hard task for them. Keeping what they need done insight, and not varying too far from their original plan.

To say Adam is a down to earth guy would be an understatement. It’s always so refreshing to meet a guy that has similar visions to you and has been around the game for plenty of time to have seen it all and the changes. His FD has grown with him for some time now. Seeing plenty of parts and new paint, most cars today don’t have the same cleanness you think they have in person. But if you love a clean black car you’ll fall in love effortlessly, every inch of this car is mint.

Like they always say “Pictures don’t do this car justice.” This was most definitely the case. Initially I was shooting some shots of SJKgarage in Sacramento, The owner Be Huynh had told me about some of the cars coming, I had scoped this car way before then. It just wasn’t a car that anyone really got time to see. With Be and I content on what he wanted for his shop and potential for Adam’s car my mind went wild. The day of shooting the Be’s garage I met everyone there, and Adam finally came. I was stunned at how immaculate the car was kept. It rolled down the street with one of the most aggressive front end’s I’ve seen on a car. After a couple minutes of talking to him we clicked instantly, it’s funny how people in the world see and think in similar ways you do. We exchanged info and the rest was history….

Later we finally met up to get the FD the well deserved lens time it needed. Watching the car move around town was a treat within itself, you could see people point and stop and just watch as it passed by. The exhaust note was perfect, enough to command your respect but not enough to have to worry about attracting unwanted attention.

Any location the car was put it, it pulled your eyes to it without hesitation. The height was set at was perfect, not low enough to rip up the frame but low enough that you’d have to worry about the road, Then we come to the front end, you might notice something a little difference from a stock FD...

That’d be the Intercooler stuffed in the bumper, or maybe even that the car has no turn signals? This to me, was one of the biggest pluses to me, for something so small it made such a big difference in cleaning up the front end.

An finally the most stand out aspect of the car, The Works in a soft bronze an polished lips, The biggest obstacle was that I wouldn’t be able to do the car it’s justice on camera for someone would doesn’t have the privilege to see it in person. This car’s future will see Adam’s daughter’s ownership in the not so distant future, “It’s the FD or money for college”
So let’s hope she gets a full ride. Right?

The Bagged Bavarian

Before we start, I would like to welcome our readers/fans to FYC ver. 2.0. The website isn't 100% done yet, but due to high anticipation & excitement, we decided to launch a bit earlier than we expected to.

We hope that you guy's enjoy what we will be putting out on the table.

Now this tastefully modified BMW E36 is built by yours truly, Sam Ostrout. When Sam first purchased this car, it looked nothing like how it does now. The car was beat, it needed a new hood, new fender, windshield frame and all. Sam decided to
make it a project & do a complete paint job.

Eventually, Sam figured out he was afraid of heights. He ended up purchasing a set of coilovers to ease his fear of heights. For a while, Sam drove around stock with a drop. Eventually Sam purchased his first set which were 16" Corvette Salad Shooters, Unfortunately he was not satisfied with them.
So what wheels did Sam decide to get? A set of refurbished AMG 3 Piece Aero 1,
17 x 8, 5 Et 13 Front & 17 x 9 Et 13 back.

With the set-up that Sam had, it had too much poke for his taste.
Running -7 camber in the rears.
Due to the aggressive set-up, Sam unfortunately got caught up with the law due to having too much camber. This led to an inspection. Sam then thought of a strategic plan to accommodate his new set-up, which involves 8.5 lips all around, the end result? Tucking like a boss...

Down the line, It was time for Sam to make a decision whether he'd keep his suspension setup.

Sam was a bit iffy about bagging his E36, but all the homies from AIRSOCIETY made him turn. The more he saw them, the more he wanted to bag it, Eventually Sam jumped the gun & switched over to air ride.

For Sam, his BMW is a work in progress & he has a lot planned for 2012. So hopefully, Sam will be joining us once again for Round 2 when the winter season ends. Until then, hibernation will occur.
